In the fall of 2022, most schools in our district will change their bell times. Extensive research shows that later start times improve middle and high school students' academic, health, and safety outcomes. Many districts across the State have adopted later secondary school start times. The district surveyed staff, students, and families regarding their thoughts about this change. Of the 1,264 respondents, 80% indicated it is important, somewhat important, or were neutral regarding the move to start times later for middle and high school students. The Port Angeles School District Board of Directors reviewed survey responses and approved adopting this change during the May 27th, 2022, Board Meeting.
Are you a teaching artist (or do you know of one) living on the North Olympic Peninsula that wants to make a difference in the lives of school-aged children? Field Arts & Events Hall at the Port Angeles Waterfront Center is launching a new arts education program called PENINSULA PERFORMS that connects arts providers directly to students and educators in the Port Angeles School District. This curriculum-based arts integration approach uses music, dance, theater, and visual arts to find new entry points into learning and aligns with both Common Core State Standards and National Core Arts Standards.
Thank you to the following people retiring in 2022 for your years of service!

Congratulations to Stevens Middle School eighth grade students Maya Garrison, Ruby Johnson, and Tallulah Meneely for being named the 2022 Pollanz Promise Scholars. These students are awarded the promise of a $40,000 college scholarship – $10,000 per year for four years – by the family of Gladys Christopher Pollanz, providing they meet scholarship criteria and graduate in four years from Port Angeles or Lincoln High Schools.
We are offering extra support for our students to pass all their classes. Please join us in the library after school this week and next from 3-5pm. Bus transportation is available on Tuesday and Thursday. Food is provided.
Dear Port Angeles Families, Our hearts are heavy as we learn more about the shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, yesterday. These words feel small in the face of this community's immense grief. It is a struggle for all of us, adults and children alike, to understand why and how such a horrific attack could occur at a school.
