Stevens Middle School to Host Martin Luther King Assembly – Public InvitedPort Angeles, Wash. – Stevens Middle School will host a Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Assembly – Remembering the Past, Shaping the Future - on Friday, January 13 at 2:00 p.m. at the school’s main gym, 1139 West 14th Street. Community members are invite to attend.

The event’s guest speaker will be Darrell Thomas, the Street Hope Manager at the Coffee Oasis in Bremerton.

Darrell Thomas works with homeless and at risk youth in Kitsap County for an organization called The Coffee Oasis.  His story of redemption and overcoming the street life that many youth experience willingly or not has given him the ability to connect with youth of today’s generation.  He is a known hip hop artist in Washington State and goes by the name of Smiley D.  Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. has influenced Darrell’s life in many ways and he will be sharing about the life of Dr. King and how he has helped our world today.

The life of Dr. King will be recognized during the assembly through video presentations, musical presentations and student presentations.
