Port Angeles, Wash. – The Port Angeles School District Board of Directors approved the appointment of Ryan Stevens as the new Stevens Middle School principal at its June 9, 2016 meeting.

Stevens replaces Renee Lancaster who has served as interim principal since February 1, 2016.  Lancaster filled in as principal when former Stevens Principal Chuck Lisk assumed the position of assistant superintendent of the school district.

“We are excited Ryan will join the Stevens staff and the school district administrative team,” Lisk said. “He has a proven track record of creating a positive culture and a focus on student success.”

“During his ten years as principal at Klahowya Secondary School in the Central Kitsap School District, the school received the Washington Achievement Award four times,” Lisk added. “Klahowya was also listed as one of the top high schools in the United States for six consecutive years based on students’ AP performance. These accomplishments are notable since the time period covered several transitions:  moving ninth graders to the high schools and converting the junior high program into a middle school model.”

Stevens currently serves as associate superintendent at Chief Leschi Schools of the Puyallup Tribe where he supervises elementary schools, transportation, athletics, food services, maintenance and operations, technology and federal grants.

Prior to this time, Stevens was principal at Summit K-12 and assistant principal and athletic director at Cleveland High School, both with Seattle Public Schools.

He previously worked for the Port Angeles School District during 1997 through 2002 as a teacher at the former Roosevelt Middle School and Choice Community School, the latter now Lincoln High School.

Stevens, a native of Port Angeles and a graduate of the Port Angeles High School class of 1991, received his Masters in Educational Administration from Western Washington University, a Bachelors degree in English Language Arts from Whitworth College and an Associate’s degree from Big Bend Community College.  Currently, he is working on his Doctorate in Education at Seattle Pacific University.

Stevens will assume the Stevens Middle School principal position on July 1, 2016.
