Port Angeles, Wash. – Two events in the near future will help students and their families prepare financially for college:  Financial Aid/FAFSA Information Night at Port Angeles High School on Wednesday, January 13 and College Goal Washington on Saturday, January 23 at Peninsula College.

Financial Aid/FAFSA Information Night at Port Angeles High School – Wednesday, January 13
Have questions about the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form? Need help filling it out? Then please plan on attending this financial aid informational night – Wednesday, January 13 at 7:00 p.m. in the PAHS Library. Jeff Lackey, a financial aid representative from Peninsula College, will be available to answer your questions about the FAFSA as well as other financial aid opportunities for post-high school education.

Even if you will not qualify for a Pell Grant, or qualify as being “in financial need,” it’s still a good idea to complete a FAFSA form.

FAFSA applications should be completed online in January in order to get early consideration for financial aid. Students and parents both have sections of the FAFSA to fill out. To get started, go to https://fafsa.ed.gov/.

Parents and students are welcome to attend.

Please see Mr. Nolan in the PAHS Guidance Office with any questions.

College Goal Washington at Peninsula College – Saturday, January 23
On Saturday, January 23, Peninsula College will host College Goal Washington, a free event for students and parents interested in learning more about federal financial aid and scholarship opportunities. The event will begin at 1:00 pm in Maier Hall (Building E), 1502 East Lauridsen Boulevard and is designed for all students who plan to attend college.

College Goal Washington provides students and families support with the financial aid application process.  Event attendees will work with trained volunteers to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA).

In order to fill out the FAFSA or the WASFA, students should bring the following:

  • Social Security Card (FAFSA filers only).
  • Driver’s license.
  • Income information, including bank statements, a W-2 or pay stub, and a past tax return.
  • Your parent (if you are 24 or younger).
  • Your parents’ financial information.  Parents should bring a copy of their previous year’s tax return.
  • One parent’s social security number (if they have one).
  • Any additional financial information—such as child support statements, TANF or welfare information, real estate, stocks or bounds investments, family business or farm info.
