Port Angeles, Wash. – Stevens Middle School enrichment class participants invite parents/guardians, staff, students and community members to their upcoming Expo on Tuesday, March 28 at 6:00 p.m. in the Peninsula College Pirate Union Building, 1502 East Lauridsen Blvd.  Student Career Explorations project displays and projects recently entered in the regional History Day competition will be featured.

Through participation in an enrichment class, a group of Stevens Middle School Highly Capable students have been putting to practice their desire for the elements of control, choice, challenge, and complexity as they accomplish a variety of projects.  Each project incorporates the academic knowledge and content they have learned in their school career.

Students are guided by teacher Susan Heyer, also the Port Angeles School District Highly Capable Coordinator, in their pursuit to be independent but collaborative, as they work to create a comprehensive portfolio, a formal classroom presentation, and a culminating exhibit that is displayed to the community.

The project topics being covered this year are: Travel Passport, Career Aspiration, and Personal Finance.

“The projects are each designed to enlighten students about setting goals toward educational aspirations and specialized training,” explained Heyer. “They are intended to support students as they prepare for post-secondary life choices toward creating productive, happy, and successful personal lives.  The projects focus on developing students’ creative and critical thinking skills and preparing them for today’s job market.”

Additionally, a documentary titled “Most Likely to Succeed” will be shown in the Peninsula College Little Theatre at 7:00-8:30 p.m. You may read more about this film online, http://www.mltsfilm.org/.
